Leadership Development

What is coaching all about?

Ginny Blair - Training Seminar :: Chrysalis Leadership CoachingHave you ever wished you had someone to talk with who really had your best interests in mind? Someone who is both supportive and whom you could trust to hold you accountable? Someone who is enthusiastic about your potential and is able to see the vision you have for yourself and for your organization? Someone who understands what you are up against and has suggestions for you to find your way to solutions that work and that have staying power? Someone who, although they do not work for your organization, knows what the structure and the personal interactions are like and why they are challenging you? If these are some of the things you’ve been wishing  for, you can find them in a coach.

Coaching is a growing business in the US because there is a need for people who are objective sounding boards without a personal agenda regarding your situation. Coaches are individuals with experience in your industry or with your issues who have found ways to develop productive solutions and who are willing to guide you to find your own solutions. Notice that the last part of that sentence said ‘find your own solutions.’ Coaches do not tell you what to do, they help you find the best-fit solution for your specific situation, one that you feel resonates for you.

Coaches recognize that you have within you the answers that you seek, and also know that finding those answers can emerge from conversations, and applying the tools and techniques they provide. Once you’ve decided on your solution, the coach helps you implement it with strategic methods and accountability checks.

Coaches start with the premise that you are fine right where you are, and with encouragement and support you can achieve whatever you want to do in whatever part of your life you want to do it in.

Chrysalis Leadership CoachingGinny’s coaching focuses on leadership in two key areas: self-leadership and leading others. Before you can lead others you need self-understanding. To paraphrase Aristotle, you must ‘know yourself.’ Ginny employs an array of tools to assist you in this endeavor, from personality clarification, to improved emotional intelligence and resilience, to creativity and visioning exercises. She will support you in finding your connection with your authentic and essential self, and work with you to identify and appreciate your strengths and talents, as well as develop areas that you wish to expand.

Your ability to lead others, whether that is as an owner of an organization or as a key employee in an organization, rests on a skill-set  that includes effective communication, creating and sustaining a vision of the future, helping others develop and contribute an understanding of power and authority and its proper use, and knowing  the dynamics of team interaction to name a few. At the heart of Ginny’s leadership coaching is flexibility of style, an essential capacity to meet all situations in the most effective and efficient way.

How does coaching work?

There are a variety of ways that you can work with Ginny in developing your capacity both for self-leadership and for organizational leadership.

  • One-on-one coaching
  • Group Coaching
  • Skill-building programs
  • Leadership retreats

One-on-one coaching consists of two options:

Bi-weekly(every two weeks) calls with Ginny that last between one and one-and-a-half hours with e-mail contact between calls and access to Ginny on an as-needed basis for specific circumstances.  (Requires a commitment of 3 months)

Once-a-month calls with Ginny that last between one and one-and-a-half hours with weekly e-mail contact between calls. (Requires a commitment of 3 months)

The calls are scheduled at a regular time that is convenient for you. You will call into a  pre-set number to connect with Ginny and if you would like, the calls are recorded so that you may listen to them afterward. You will receive a preparation form to complete approximately 24 hours before your coaching call that helps to focus you on the important aspects that you wish to discuss with Ginny during the call. E-mails from Ginny provide follow-up support and encouragement, as well as accountability checks.

Group coaching is conducted on specific topics for a group of individuals interested in the topic. They will be announced in advance and conducted via a conferencing call set-up. Chrysalis Leadership Coaching will provide workbooks and assignments that guide you in your personal application of the learning.

Skill-building programs are sets of lessons that build on a central leadership skill, sometimes for personal growth in self-leadership and sometimes skills for leading others. Once you are enrolled you may access the programs on your own time schedule building your skills at your own pace. Ginny is available via e-mail for assistance as you progress.

Leadership retreats take place two times a year and are offered primarily for individuals who are working with Ginny in one-on-one coaching relationships. Retreats are three days long in a location that offers natural surroundings and relaxing amenities. Ginny leads the retreats and structures them around topics that are key areas for growth or expansion. The retreats allow participants to explore areas of personal growth and leadership skills in a small group setting.
